This video is a showreel of
55 different book designs of which Henning M. Lederer has animated and brought to life the patterns and designs which have previously been forgotten about. The designs featured on the vintage books are minimalist and modernist in style but due to the prevalence they appear upon books in that period, particularly that of lowbrow academic studies, the books are almost invisible among the shelves.
However, when Lederer takes to animating the designs, in effect re-creating the book covers through animation it brings a new lease of life to the long unregarded covers. The use of animation on regards to book covers in this case creates for an interesting idea. The idea being with the growing use of kindles and e-books that such forms of decorating a books cover could indeed become the future. Although this may be a lucrative idea for book covers in the near future, I will note that this of course would not always be the case, as with all things budgets and personal taste along with the suitability of the graphic comes into account. Overall I feel this is an interesting and highly engaging concept that I would be interested in trying out myself.
